Krawfish Time !!! A Delicious Identity Crisis

Some things in life seem to have no rhyme or reason. There are just intangibles that defy logic or all mainstream thought. There are incidences in this world that are completely unexplainable to the rational man, things like a restaurant called Krawfish Time!!!

A Couple O Burger Joints !!

I have been to a few of Fresno’s lesser known burger joints over the last few months, both of them were good but neither of them really warranted their own review from Di60Y. They are on two different sides of town, one is new and one is old but both specialize in burgers going in and around your mouth.

The Paris Cafe: Chinese & Cheap

Bo and I were back in Chinatown to actually check out some Chinese food.  Right on F Street there is a legendary little hole in the wall called Paris Café.  It is known for big portions for people with small wallets.  It is also known for its only waitress, Helen, who keeps regulars from every inch of town returning again and again.

The Ho Ho Kafe

Chinatown in Fresno: It is weird, it can be rough, it has history and it has flavor on the cheap! The neighborhood has gone through many phases: Prohibition, bar district, gambling, prostitution, Chinese ghetto, and poster child for a failed neighborhood. The underground tunnels, just Google them.  Chinatown still has a few Chinese restaurants, Central Fish, weird shops, and a Chinese herb store from the days of old. If you had to compare it to anything it would be Los Angeles’ Chinatown and San Francisco’s tenderloin except with less people and far more boarded-up businesses. Despite the blight there are still plenty of reasons to go to Fresno’s Chinatown; we went there for food. We went to The Ho Ho Kafe, which claims to have the best breakfast in town. We wanted them to prove it.

Al Rico vs The Pink Taco - OUR FIRST FOOD CHALLENGE !!!

When I was a kid there was a little taco shop, tucked under a freeway overpass, selling three little tacos for a buck. It was called Al's Rico Tacos. I used to walk there with my friend Zach all the time and I remember it very fondly. Al's Rico opened a second location quite a few years ago on the corner of Marks and Ashlan in a little drive thru/walk up shack in the parking lot of a strip mall. They sell two tacos for $1.25 and plan ahead as there is almost always a constant line of cars waiting at the drive thru.

A few months ago, a new taco shack opened right across the street. It was identical in size, yet was painted bright pink and sold two tacos for a slightly higher price of $1.50. Who would do this? Who would set up an identical business right across the street from a legend like Al's Rico? They called themselves Lola’s Rico Taco and these people had balls. Would the comida back up the cojones? Bo and I were about to find out in our first ever FOOD CHALLENGE.

Angelo's Drive In

Many have fallen and few still stand, Angelo’s Drive-In on Weber and Olive is a survivor.  They have officially been flipping burgers for over 56 years since their Grand Opening on April 10th, 1954.  They have an old school neon sign, overhang, walk up window and everything else that you would expect from a classic 50’s hold out, but would the food justify the longevity?  Bo and I were ready to find out.
